BLACK 505 to return BIGGER & BETTER: Better act fast - Johari warns govt

PKR's national Black 505 director Johari Abdul said the people's movement will soon be making a return with a new "bigger and better" program than the previous series of rallies that have so far drawn at least half a million Malaysians to gather peacefully to demand the resignation of the Election Commission's top panel.
"Black 505's objective was to make sure all that the chairman, deputy chairman and all EC commissioners resign. That was the main reason why we formed Black 505 and we went round the country and until and unless they resign, we will not stop there," Johari, who is also the MP for Sungei Petani, told Malaysia Chronicle.
"We are thinking big and so I think the government better act fast. Yes, thinking big and we are going around again. We will probably be bigger than the (previous series of) Black 505."
Johari declined to give details of the 'new' Black 505 series but a second round of rallies may start in conjunction with the campaigning for the Kuala Besut by-election due to be balloted on July 24.
A more concerted campaign is expected to follow after the fasting month, which begins today.
Incompetent and "malfunctioning"
So far, Prime Minister Najib Razak's government has resisted attempts by the Opposition as well as civil society to sack the incompetent EC commissioners, who not only face a barrage of lawsuits for helping his BN coalition cheat at the 13th general election but also boldly passed off ink containing mainly food-colouring as 'indelible ink' to voters.
Emboldened by Najib's tacit okay, the EC chairman and his deputy have dug in, issuing public statements that there was no reason for them to quit and that no one other than the King could sack them.
Najib has tried to tip toe over the issue, and is expected to wait for public anger to cool down before rewarding the EC commissioners. In the meantime, some of the PM's supporters have tried to placate irate voters by hinting that he had asked the EC panel to step down gracefully as part of a bigger plan for "national reconciliation".
However, few believe or have confidence that Najib would punish the EC, without whose help the BN may not have been able to defend their control of the federal government.
"As any responsible public servant, if you are faced with that kind of evidence to show your malpractices or malfunction, I think you should resign. There's a lot of criticism against you and enough evidence shown and you have to resign," said Johari.
