Khairy: Kuala Besut will decide Najib's fate

KUALA BESUT BN Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar has urged young voters in Kuala Besut to support the coalition’s candidate, explaining that defeat in Terengganu would ‘threaten the position of Najib Abdul Razak’.

He said that if BN loses to PAS in the by-election on July 24, the situation would be uncertain and that a state election could be called to resolve the resulting ‘hung’ assembly.

"If we lose and if there is a Terengganu state election, a wave - not blue - but a movement, a jolt, would reach Parliament,” he said in a speech today.

"And we don't want to see BN's position (and) Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's position - the BN chairperson, Umno president - threatened because of what happens (here)”.

Khairy was speaking in his capacity as youth and sports minister in Kampung Bharu, Kuala Besut, where he also handed sports equipment to local NGOs.

Also present to address the crowd of about 300 youths - many of whom were in BN t-shirts - was BN candidate Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abdul Rahman and his wife Siti Salbiah Osman.

"I promise to give even greater commitment than before, and continue the legacy of the late (Kuala Besut assemblyperson) Dr A Rahman Mokthar and continue BN's services to the community especially those in Kuala Besut," he said, to loud applause.

He then led a prayer session and went down the stage to greet about half the audience at their seats.
