More come to defence of Seri Pristana headmaster

The re-opening of the school canteen has failed to douse the controversy over SK Seri Pristana headmaster's decision to turn a shower room into a makeshift canteen.

NONEIn cyberspace, more and more people claiming to be parents of pupils who go to the school and those who know headmaster Mohamad Nasir Mohd Noh (left) have come to his defence.

At the same time, a new Facebook page has emerged to counter one in support of Mohamad Nasir; this one calling for the headmaster to be immediately arrested.

Despite being set up only a day after its counterpart, the anti-Mohamad Nasir page has only 1,250 "likes" as at 5pm today, far behind the pro-Mohamad Nasir page, which has 4299 "likes" as at 5pm today.

Upping the ante of the Facebook war, the administrator of the pro-Mohamad Nasir page asked supporters to report the anti-Mohamad Nasir page to Facebook as a violation of its terms of use.

Other items posted on the pro-Mohamad Nasir page include a video of a woman, who said her children attended the school, attesting to the headmaster's integrity.

"The room was used earlier (than Ramadan), only in Ramadan it was specified for non-Muslims so Muslim children would not see it.

NONE"The school's toilet (tandas sekolah) is very clean, the children remove their school shoes and wear slippers to enter. It's so clean. We can lie on the floor. It's not a dirty place as claimed," said, the woman who identified herself as Zainah Zainuddin (left).

Zainah said the headmaster is someone who cares for the school and its pupils and had even helped her child, who used to fail Mathematics, obtain good results for UPSR.

"He's not someone who would do things without thought. He only does the best for the students," she said in an amateur video which appeared to be shot in front of the school.

The video was posted by Azmah Abidin, who said her children go to the school next to Sri Pristana.

HM urged to sue detractors
Others urged all to provide financial support so that the headmaster could take legal action against those who "slandered" him online, including international websites which had picked up the report.

The administrator also posted several items said to be from the headmaster himself, lamenting his situation and justifying his actions, but these could not be independently verified.

The anti-Mohamad Nasir page, which is in Bahasa Malaysia and Chinese, mostly contains news articles on the matter.

However, many supporting the headmaster also posted on the anti-Mohamad Nasir page in his defence.

The controversy broke out on June 23, when a parent posted a photograph of her daughter and other non-Malay pupils eating in the shower room.

However, the school explained that the room, although originally a shower room, was no longer used as such and was a "changing room" before being turned into a makeshift canteen in March.

This was due to renovations to the canteen, and not meant only for non-Muslim students during Ramadan.

The Education Ministry instructed a probe into the matter and ordered the school to cease using the room as a makeshfit canteen. Mohamad Nasir was also instructed to go on leave for one week.
