KUALA LUMPUR - The Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) movement today challenged both the Home Ministry and prison department to show evidence that its de facto leader P. Uthayakumar is not being mistreated in Kajang Prison.
Uthayakumar's lawyer A.S. Dhaliwal added that a letter will be issued to the ministry and prison authorities soon to allow Uthayakumar's wife S. Indradevi, Hindraf's supporters and the press to see the actual condition which Uthayakumar is facing while incarcerated.

When asked if their request was denied, Dhaliwal said a decision would be made only after they have received a reply from the authorities.
He also slammed Deputy Home Minister Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar's statement on Uthayakumar's wellbeing was merely based on a report issued by "a third party".
"The report which the minister received is from the prison. How does he know that Uthaya is receiving proper medical care?" said Dhaliwal.
Wan Junaidi had told theSun four days ago that Uthayakumar was not mistreated despite concerns raised by his wife.
Earlier, Indradevi, 41, dressed in an orange shirt posted with Uthayakumar's profile, reiterated her worries for her husband while crying and appealed to the authorities to allow her husband to be treated for both his spinal injury and diabetic condition at HUKM.
When asked if she would seek Waythamoorthy's assistance in the matter, she said: "No. I will not."
Waythamoorthy is Uthayakumar's younger brother and deputy minister in the prime minister's department. He is also the Persatuan Hindraf Malaysia's chairman.
She added that she is scheduled to meet Uthayakumar on August 4 at Kajang prison.
