PAS candidate: I lost, the people won

KUALA BESUT Defeated PAS candidate Azlan Yusof or better known as Che Long said it was the people of Kuala Besut who became the ultimate victors in yesterday’s by-election for the state seat.

NONE"We are not surprised by our defeat. Although Che Long (left) lost, the people of Kuala Besut got a lot of money. The projects offered here is over RM400 million," he said referring to the pledges made by BN to develop the area.

He was speaking to reporters last night at the Kuala Besut PAS headquarters, shortly after the official results were announced.

Responding to a question on what were the factors that contributed to his defeat, he said the contest was akin to "Che Long against the government of Malaysia."

"With all these ministers and deputy ministers coming here (to campaign for the BN candidate)," he added.

Nevertheless, the PAS man said that he was satisfied with the electoral process and was grateful that there were untoward incidents.

Azlan also pledged to monitor the execution of the projects announced here in his capacity as the PAS Besut treasurer.

The PAS candidate, who polled 5,696 votes, was defeated by BN's Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abdul Rahman with a majority of 2,592 votes.
