Seri Pristana school: What is missing is the golden rule - Stephen Ng

The lack of sensitivity towards others is the root cause of the Sri Pristana School fiasco.
I fully agree with Dr Mohamed Rafick Khan and what he has to say about the role of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). It is obvious that the current PTA president, Hussein Mohd Ariff, does not fully understand the role that the PTA plays.
Dr Mohamed Rafick has given the worst case scenario, where he suggested that the teacher’s canteen should have been moved into the washroom. I nearly burst out into laughter when I read his suggestion, but he has an important point that has not crossed the minds of the teachers, the Headmaster and the PTA Chairman.
In fact, Mohamad Nasir Mohd Nor, as the Headmaster, should set a good example. I like to go to the extent of suggesting that his entire office should be shifted to the wash room. In fact, we should allow him to organize Buka Puasa for all teachers in the same wash room, since hygiene is not an issue at all.
An honorary “Office Boy” position should also be created for Perkasa’s deputy president, Zulkifli Noordin, where he can sit beside Mohamad Nasir in the shower room. How about that!
You may be laughing, but when the table is reversed, this is what makes you realise what a terrible decision it was for a school headmaster to make for his students, regardless of race and religion. I dare Mohamad Nasir to take up my suggestions immediately after he returns to the school. The relocation of the Headmaster’s office should be a permanent decision. No turning back, even if people were to persuade him otherwise. I would salute such a person.
As it is, the obvious thing that is lacking here is the ability to apply the Golden Rule, “Do to others what you would have them do to you.” In short, if you want to make a decision like this, be prepared put yourself in the same shoes.
You will then understand how other people feel about their children being asked to eat their lunch in the shower room. Now, I even wonder if someone like Zulkifli Noordin has conscience of a man when he started to defend Mohamad Nasir!
I hope, at least Mohamad Nasir comes to his senses.
