SO CLEVER OF HIM: Shahidan kicks 'indelible ink' ball back to Health ministry

SO CLEVER OF HIM: Shahidan kicks 'indelible ink' ball back to Health ministry
The 'indelible' ink hot potato is now back to Health ministry’s court after minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Shahidan Kassim claimed that the ink used in the 13th general election contained less than 1 percent silver nitrate according to the ministry’s guideline.
“We use whatever that has been decided by the Health Minister and if we use it above the level, it will cause health problems,” said Shahidan.
Last week, Shahidan shocked the nation when he said the indelible ink had only contained food colouring.
The indelible ink used for the first time in a general election cost RM7.1 million, three times more than the cost in 2008 at RM2.4 million. In that year however, the ink was not used.
There was public uproar on polling day following the discovery that the ink could be washed off from one's skin, but the Election Commission defended itself claiming that it was obliged to limit the content of silver nitrate in the ink as instructed by the Health ministry.
The ministry has however rejected the claim, saying it had not been consulted.
