Stop spreading lies, Lim tells Umno

The DAP leader says Umno reps should not commit sinful acts during Ramadan by lying about DAP's relationship with sex bloggers.
GEORGE TOWN: Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has rebuked Umno for blatantly lying that DAP was behind sex bloggers Alvin Tan and Vivian Lee’s offensive Facebook posting on Islam, and for suggesting that Kuching MP Chong Chien Jen was involved in the two young persons’ earlier sex videos.
He was disappointed that Umno MPs could commit sinful acts during the current Muslim holy month of Ramadan by spreading such falsehood.
Instead of focusing its resources on spreading lies against the DAP, he said Umno should be focusing on the basic premises of growth for betterment of country and people.
“By all means take action against sex bloggers for being offensive against Islam.
“But don’t practice double-standards and selective prosecution by failing to act against those who insulted other religions,” reminded the Bagan MP.
He was referring to remarks made by Umno MP Bung Mokhtar Radin in parliament earlier this week, suggesting DAP’s involvement with the blogger couple.
Lim pointed out that Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali, university lecturer Ridhuan Tee Abdullah and Umno’s defeated Shah Alam parliamentary candidate Zulkifli Noordin are all scot free despite their offensive remarks against other religions.
Ibrahim had threatened to burn the Malay edition of Bible that contained the term “Allah” while the other two insulted against Hindus.
Instead of wasting time on two foolish young kids, he said Umno should focus on bright kids who can’t get into local university places in courses they choose despite being top students and scoring maximum marks.
Lim also dismissed the Education Ministry’s excuse that these top students with the maximum CGPA scores of 4.0 could not get their choice of courses because they filled in the application forms wrongly as “unacceptable and ridiculous.”
“The ministry should not descend to the low intellectual depths of Umno MPs by making such silly jokes,” chided Lim.
He called Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak to keep his word that top students would get university places.
Or else, he said Barisan Nasional federal government would be condemned now and future as “a government of mediocrity instead of excellence, and rewarding poor results instead of the best performance.”
“By depriving and destroying the future of top students, Malaysia is destroying future of excellence and the country’s hope of being a high-income nation,” Lim stressed.
Asset declaration
The DAP secretary-general also said that the party has directed its three executive councillors and the legislative assembly speaker in Selangor to publicly declare the assets on their own free volition.
The DAP’s highest decision making body, the central executive committee (CEC) endorsed this decision during a meeting on Tuesday, Lim said.
He revealed that Selangor DAP head Teresa Kok would be tasked to coordinate with the excos and speaker on timing and mode of making their assets public.
Lim said the CEC made the decision in wake of Selangor Pakatan Rakyat government’s refusal to emulate his own state administration of publicly declaring the personal assets of the chief minister, executive councillors and House speaker.
“The CEC endorsed the decision that DAP leaders in government must publicly declare their assets to uphold integrity,” said Lim.
DAP’s three excos in Selangor are assemblymen Teng Chang Khim of Sungai Pinang, Ean Yong Hian Wah of Seri Kembangan and V Ganapathi Rao of Kota Alam Shah, while the Speaker is Hannah Yeoh of Subang Jaya.
