Umno wants Sedition Act used on those responsible for school’s shower room pictures on Facebook

Selangor Umno wants those responsible for uploading pictures of non-Muslim pupils eating in a Sungai Buloh school shower room charged with sedition. Its liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Noh Omar made the call after visiting the SK Seri Pristana school here today.
Noh said the headmaster Mohamad Nasir Mohd Noor had made a police report against the parent who had posted the pictures on Facebook for creating tension.
"If possible, I want the police to investigate the headmaster’s report and action taken under the Sedition Act,” he said at a press conference in the school’s canteen.
While Noh did not name the parent, he was referring to a parent who had identified herself as Guneswari.
Her posting created a social media storm and prompted a visit to the school by deputy Education Minister II P. Kamalanathan, who declared the matter closed after saying it was neither racial nor religious.
Noh said he will send a letter to the police to speed up the investigation on the headmaster’s report.
Noh criticised the parent who had highlighted the issue without checking the facts of the matter first.
He said the school administration had resorted to using the shower room as the canteen did not have sufficient space for its increasing student population.
"If parents have a problem, they should refer to the Parent Teacher Association and not make a big issue of things like this.
"The parents of the child (who had posted the picture) had just enrolled the child in this school for a week and posted the pictures. Surely, she would not have known about the school's decision to use the shower room as an extension to the canteen in March,” he said at press conference in the school’s canteen.
The SK Seri Pristana has 1,373 pupil of which 32 are non-Muslims.
Noh today donated RM20,000 for the school’s canteen expansion project.
The school’s PTA chairman Hussein Mohd Ariff said it was planning a dialogue on October 27 with parents to explain the issue.
He also announced that October 27 is also the planned date for the school’s Canteen Day fundraiser.
He lamented Guneswari’s failure to raise the shower room matter with the PTA.
