PAS sec-gen swept aside by new faces in FAM

The old guard, including PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, was completely wiped out in the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) election today.
Several incumbent office-bearers had chosen not to defend their position, while those that did were defeated.
Takiyuddin was the only incumbent to defend his vice-president position.
He only managed to garner three out of 38 delegate votes, the second lowest of eight contenders vying for four vice-president positions.
The new FAM vice-presidents are Mohd Johaeri Mohd Ayob (34 votes), Ab Ghani Hassan? (29 votes), S Sivasundaram (28 votes) and Rosmadi Ismail (20 votes).
Apart from Takiyuddin, the defeated contenders for the vice-president positions were Marzuki Sulong (18 votes), Shamsul Anwar Sulaiman (15 votes) and Astaman Abdul Aziz (one vote).
Takiyuddin, who is Kota Baru MP, has been a familiar face on the football scene.
He was previously the Kelantan Football Association deputy president and also served as an FAM exco member in 1997.
Another incumbent casualty was Afandi Hamzah. With only six votes, he failed to defend his deputy president position.

Both the deputy president positions were filled by new faces, namely Subahan Kamal (37 votes) and Mohd Yusoff Mahadi (33 votes).
The new FAM line-up, which will last until 2021, comprised entirely of new faces under the leadership of Johor crown prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.
Tunku Ismail won the presidency uncontested after Umno information chief Annuar Musa withdrew from the contest.
The election took place at the 53rd FAM Congress in Petaling Jaya today. -Mkini
