Perak Bersatu leaders resign amid Dr M's attempts to quell unrest

Infighting within Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) has resulted in two of its srikandi (‘woman’) leaders from Perak resigning from their posts.
Zulaiha Sidek, who is a Bersatu srikandi exco member and Batu Gajah division srikandi chief, said she was tired of the squabbling within the party.
"This decision was made on my own to show that I am tired of strife and fighting within in the party," Zulaiha was quoted as saying by Utusan Online.
Gopeng Bersatu srikandi chief Aflatuniah Md Norani also stepped down.
Their decision to resign comes as party chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad moves to quell a rebellion in Perak against Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin.
Mahathir had said those who supported him but called for Muhyiddin's resignation were his "enemies" who are instead fighting for Umno president Najib Abdul Razak.
While her allegiance is unclear, Zulaiha was quoted by Sinar Harian as saying that the party leadership should listen to the grassroots.
"The (party's) central and state leadership should give special attention to the voice of the grassroots and then take efficient action towards each problem that arises," she said.

She also said the internal fighting did not reflect the party's motto of being united, dignified, and trustworthy.
On Saturday, Ipoh Timur Bersatu chief Azrul Suhadi Ahmad Mokhtar was reported as saying that a large number of the 24 Bersatu divisions in Perak feel that Muhyiddin is responsible for all the deviations in the party at the state and national levels.
According to him, this is because Muhyiddin was never sincere to Mahathir and Bersatu supporters.- Mkini
