PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli has challenged Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin to organise a townhall session with 300 opposition representatives on Transformasi Nasional 2050 (TN 50).
Calling for the session to be televised live on RTM, he said the minister should have the courage to face everyone, and not just invited guests.
“I promise there will be no episodes of slapping during the session.
“The session will focus on problems faced by the people, and not acting or drama created to safeguard the image of a prime minister who is increasingly being rejected by the people,” he added in a statement.
During a TN50 meet on Wednesday night in Putrajaya, movie producer David Teo was slapped by comedian Sulaiman Yassin right in front of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
Sulaiman, who is popularly known as Mat Over, claimed that he wanted to teach Teo some manners, but the latter denied he was being rude to the prime minister.
Following the altercation, Najib made the two shake hands at the same event.
Meanwhile, Rafizi also questioned the allocation for the TN50 campaign, including the amount spent to organise the townhall sessions, advertisements and others.
“How much has been spent so far and how much more will be spent after this? Which ministry's allocation is being used to organise these propaganda sessions?” he asked.
The PKR leader also claimed if Najib was brave enough to face Pakatan Harapan lawmakers in Parliament on a regular basis, there would be no need to dig into the public coffers to organise these sessions.
Listing several questions for Khairy, Rafizi said these were some of the issues which Malaysians wanted the government to address.
“The influx of foreign workers has reached a point to where they outnumber Malaysian Indians and are expected to overtake the number of Malaysian Chinese by 2034. What is Khairy's stand on this and what is his solution?
“The low rate of increase with regard to income which is around two percent for the past two years (after deducting inflation). Malaysian workers only get 34 percent of the economic value they generate (returned as wages to the workers) compared to workers in other countries, where the return in wages is much higher. What is Khairy's stand on this, and what is his solution?
“The continued increase in prices as a result of BN's policies such as the implementation of GST, the removal or subsidies and the floating of fuel prices according to the market. What is Khairy's stand on this and what is his solution?” he asked.- Mkini
