Stop 'silly' excuses, nab corrupt politicians, PAS tells MACC

PAS has criticised the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for stating that action will be taken against corrupt politicians after the next general election in order to prevent the arrests from becoming campaign fodder.
Without mincing words, the Islamist party's deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man described MACC chief commissioner Dzulkifli Ahmad's argument as silly.
"First, (Dzulkifli's) statement shows that MACC is not fair towards Malaysian citizens, where there are special rights for politicians...
"Secondly, the statement shows that the MACC does not act independently," he said.
Tuan Ibrahim also questioned what would happen if the police decided to take a similar stand, where politicians who committed crimes would be spared until after the polls.
He also asked how long MACC intended to postpone taking action since nobody knows when the general election would be held.
"What about the general election after that, scheduled for 2023?
"When will MACC stop taking action against politicians then? In 2022?" he asked in a statement.

Independence in question
Tuan Ibrahim said Dzulkifli must understand that MACC would be accused of meddling in politics because it is seen as being unfair, as those linked to the 1MDB and SRC International cases have yet to be dragged to court.
"PAS urges MACC to continue with its duties without any exception.
"Anyone who is involved with corruption needs to be brought to justice immediately," he added.
Tuan Ibrahim said MACC has come down hard on corruption, and should not allow its reputation to be tained with this stand on politicians.
Previously, DAP lawmaker Teresa Kok also criticised MACC over this matter.- Mkini
