Khalid confirms retirement from top cop post

Noor Rashid Ibrahim assumes the IGP post next month.
igpKUALA LUMPUR: Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar has confirmed he is retiring next month, after leading the police force for four years.
“My tenure ends at the age of 60,” Khalid, who turns 60 on Sept 5, told FMT today.
Khalid will be replaced by his deputy, Noor Rashid Ibrahim.
“As for now, the deputy inspector-general will take over,” he added.
Khalid had previously remained tight lipped when asked if his contract would be extended.
Noor Rashid, 59 was appointed as the deputy inspector-general of police in December 2014.
Seremban-born Khalid began his career in the force at the age of 19, and his tenure saw several large-scale opposition and pro-government rallies which came under the Peaceful Assembly Act.
Khalid had also come under criticism for his use of Twitter to announce investigation of social media posts deemed “seditious”. -FMT
