SINGAPORE ANJING’ – A REFLECTION OF UMNO’S RACIST RULE: SINGAPORE THE NEXT VICTIM OF UNCOUTH MALAYSIANS AFTER INDONESIA’S FLAG TURNED UPSIDE-DOWN

PETALING JAYA – After the gaffe on Indonesia’s flag, Malaysia has once again been criticised as poor hosts after local supporters chanted derogatory words during a football match against Singapore at the Shah Alam Stadium on Wednesday.
A 20-second video of Malaysian fans titled “Singapore anjing (dog)” had gone viral on the Internet. One of the spectators was also seen showing his middle finger directed to the players on the pitch during the game.
The group was believed to be a member of Ultras Malaya, a band of hardcore Harimau Malaysia fans known for their provocative chants in football matches.
Chants of “kami turun ke Shah Alam, satu jiwa sokong Malaysia, Singapore anjing dibunuh saja” (we come to Shah Alam, united in supporting Malaysia, Singapore dogs can be killed) could clearly be heard in the video.
Sigaporean netizens who commented on the video had expressed their displeasure over the incident, stressing that Malaysian fans were lacking sportsmanship and morals.
A number of Malaysian users had since then came forward and apologised to the offended Singaporeans, stating that the video did not represent the majority of Malaysians.
The SEA Games media liaison spokesperson confirmed that the incident took place during the match between the two neighbouring nations.
The spokesperson said nothing could be done at that time to control the crowd, adding that any actions against the rowdy fans had to be conducted by the stadium’s security officials.
The match ended with a 2-1 victory for Malaysia, contributed by goals form Muhammad Nor Azam Azih and N. Thanabalan.
This is not the first time Malaysia has become a target of flak throughout its hosting of the SEA Games.
A special souvenir book which was released during the SEA Games opening on Saturday displayed an upside-down version of the Indonesian flag, causing uproar from the republic’s citizens.
