Dr M's fear of defeat greater than Najib's, claims portal

A pro-Umno portal has responded to Dr Mahathir Mohamad's blog posting in which the Pakatan Harapan chairperson accused Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak of delaying the opposition coalition's registration because he feared to lose the coming general election.
MyKMU.net said while all those who contest in an election harbour the fear of losing, Mahathir, however, is sweating more profusely than Najib over this prospect.
The portal also commented on the former prime minister's claim that his friends and associates are subject to scrutiny by the authorities, such as the Inland Revenue Board (IRB).
“If the government has taken action against Mahathir's cronies, this is because they have been found to have breached the law following investigations.
“They probably escaped (action) before this because they were not investigated. When you go against the government, you expose yourself and attract the attention of the authorities...” it added.
MyKMU said when an investigation unearths wrongdoing, then actions, according to the law, must be taken.
“This is the reason why my grandmother advised me that those who live in glass houses should not throw stones.
“You cannot be invincible with regard to the law just because you support Mahathir. So who fears defeat more? Mahathir's fear is worse,” MyKMU said.
During Mahathir's tenure as prime minister, the portal said his political adversaries were detained for years without investigation, or even a court trial, under the Internal Security Act (ISA).
MyKMU claimed that Mahathir allowed Umno to be de-registered in 1988 in order to eradicate his internal foes and a quota system was created to make it difficult for others to challenge him.

The portal also noted how Mahathir had given his former heir-apparent Anwar Ibrahim (photo) the marching orders when the latter became too strong, even though Anwar did not mount an open challenge against the then prime minister.
On the other hand, MyKMU said, Najib, who Mahathir claimed is a coward, had the courage to abolish the ISA, which had served as a political tool for the former prime minister for decades.
“Najib also opened up the election process to hundreds of thousands of Umno delegates, compared to only 2,000 delegates during Mahathir's era,” it added.
As for the removal of former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin, the portal said Najib did this because Muhyiddin openly challenged the cabinet's decision.
“Muhyiddin was only sacked from the party when he continued to attack the party and government leadership.
“This is far different from Mahathir's action of sacking Anwar from the party a day after firing him from the cabinet,” it added. - Mkini
