The opposition has urged Parliament to review the results of the bloc vote in which the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry's (KPDNKK) portion of Budget 2018 was passed on Monday.
The request was made by Johari Abdul (PKR-Sungai Petani) during the Dewan Rakyat sitting today.
He claimed that the opposition had tied with BN lawmakers, instead of being defeated by one vote.
"While Section 99 of the Standing Order stipulates that the decision of the speaker is final, I need to seek the advice of the speaker.
"This is because, during the counting of votes for KPDNKK’s portion (of Budget 2018) on Nov 20, a mistake had occurred," Johari said.
The PKR chief whip claimed 52 lawmakers had voted against the budget, instead of the 51 announced.
"When we looked again into it, 52 voted ‘for’ while 52 voted ‘against’, not 51.
"I urge the speaker to show (the ballots) and review the ballot papers, to see that it was indeed 51 votes, instead of 52 votes according to our information," he said.
However, Deputy Speaker Ismail Mohamad Said turned down Johari's request.
