DAP lawmaker Teo Nie Ching has questioned MCA's failure to train its guns on Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Muhyiddin Yassin and Anwar Ibrahim when the trio was in the government.
This is in response to MCA publicity spokesperson Ti Lian Ker claiming that the three were stumbling blocks to the recognition of the United Examination Certificate (UEC).
"Ti, thanks for telling us that Mahathir, Muhyiddin and Anwar were the obstacles to the recognition of the UEC when the trio was in the government.
"So why was MCA sitting in the same government with them if MCA was truly the number one defender of the UEC?
"Did MCA train its guns at them when they were in the government or does it only dare challenge them when they are no longer in power?” she asked in a statement.
The Kulai MP also commented on Ti's claim that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak as willing to reconsider recognising the UEC.
In response to this, she cited Education Minister Mahdzir Khalid's parliamentary reply that the government would not increase the number of Chinese independent schools in Malaysia.
She also pointed out the Legal Profession Qualifying Board's decision not to recognise the UEC for the Certificate of Legal Practice (CLP).
"So Ti must explain to us, since Mahathir, Muhyiddin and Anwar are no longer in BN, who are the obstacles to the recognition of the UEC and Chinese independent schools now?" she said.
Despite Ti's claim that Anwar was an obstacle to the UEC's recognition, Teo said PKR under his leadership had no qualms including the recognition of the UEC in Pakatan Rakyat's manifesto for the 2013 general election.
"It only says one thing. In terms of influencing coalition partners and implementing (our) own agendas, MCA is no match for DAP,” she said.
Teo also said Pakatan Harapan would make an announcement on its stand regarding the UEC in good time.
"If Ti can’t wait, then please ask Najib to dissolve the Parliament now, then Harapan will disclose its manifesto.
"At that same time, Ti can tell us when the UEC will be recognised by BN since Mahathir, Anwar and Muhyiddin are no longer in BN," she added.- Mkini
