Coffee company offers free toll at Penang Bridge

A Facebook user thanking the coffee company for toll-free travel on the Penang Bridge.
GEORGE TOWN: Social media was abuzz after a coffee company offered toll-free access at the Penang Bridge for those who waved a bottle of their drink at the toll booth.
Wonda Coffee paid for the toll for those who waved its Milk Coffee or Mochaccino bottles. The toll is either RM5.60 or RM7, depending on the type of Touch n Go card they have.
Each coffee bottle costs about RM3.50.
But the promotion was only for the first 5,000 cars per day, between 8am and 8pm, on Saturday and Sunday. They also needed to cross a designated toll booth decorated with their advertisement.
Many took to Facebook to thank them. Facebook user Jacqueline Khoo thanked Wonda for giving her toll-free access.
“Thank you Wonda coffee. It was a hot day. Drinking a bottle of cold milk coffee and not having to pay for the Penang Bridge toll was a plus.”
But one Facebook user, Betty Chea, said she had bought two bottles of the drink but did not get to go in for free.
“Lousy! I feel that I’ve been lied to. No banner which lane to use. When I showed them the bottles at the toll booth, they said I can’t get through without paying! I bought two bottles, okay!
“Two bottles cost me RM7.60. I’m crossing the bridge daily at RM5.60.
“It’s not about money. It’s about the time wasted on stopping at the petrol station to buy the drinks … the time wasted at the toll to queue,” she said.
A company official responded to Chea on Facebook, expressing its regret, adding she had gotten into the wrong toll booth. -FMT
