PAS tonight unveiled the manifesto on behalf of Gagasan Sejahtera which among others proposed the abolition of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and exempting excise tax for first-time car buyers.
In order to replace the GST, PAS proposes to tax corporate savings and transactions on Bursa Malaysia.
While Pakatan Harapan has also proposed to abolish the GST, it had proposed to make up for the shortfall by minimising leakages and depending on organic growth as it expects to purchase power to increase without the GST.
Like Harapan, PAS has also proposed to exempt excise tax on those buying their first vehicle with an engine of under 1,300cc.
However, PAS went a step further by also proposing an interest-free loan for the first vehicle.
It did not mention if this interest-free loan will come from banks or the government.
In the 20-point manifesto, the Islamist party also proposes to write-off existing loans under the Higher Education Loan Fund (PTPTN).
In contrast, Harapan proposed a moratorium on monthly repayments until the borrower reaches a monthly salary of RM4,000.
Other pledges include monthly food aid for the poor, free school bus rides and a one-off RM2,000 cash aid for women looking to set up a home business.
PAS will also seek to restructure highway toll payments.
No mention of 1MDB
On the education front, it wants boarding schools to focus on the poor and proposes to reintroduce the quota system in public universities.
It also wants all subjects to be taught in Bahasa Melayu.
The manifesto made no mention of 1MDB but did promise a corruption-free government.
It also promised to implement Islamic requirements in all aspects of life.
The manifesto was unveiled at a function in Cyberjaya tonight officiated by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.
Representatives from Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia (Ikatan), Barisan Jemaah Islamiah Se-Malaysia (Berjasa), components of the Gagasan Sejahtera, were present.
