MyPPP saga: Rival factions hold separate AGMs this weekend

No end appears to be in sight to the drama engulfing MyPPP, with two rival factions holding their annual general meetings this weekend.
The first faction, led by president Maglin Dennis D'Cruz, held its AGM at the Putra World Trade Centre this morning.
His rival, M Kavyeas, insists that he is still the legitimate president of the party, and will be holding another AGM at the Kuala Lumpur Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall tomorrow.
D'Cruz told reporters today that his members had met with a Registrar of Societies officer on Thursday, and were given a verbal go-ahead with their plans to hold their AGM.
"They told us, 'let them (Kavyeas) do (their AGM). You don't worry, go ahead and do yours, let us (ROS) decide," he said.
The meeting with ROS was necessary, he added, as Kayveas previously claimed he was issued a letter stating that he remains MyPPP president pending a probe on some party-related issues.
Kavyeas also previously told Malaysiakini that his own MyPPP AGM tomorrow would decide the party's continued membership in BN.
Staying with BN
At a press conference earlier, D'Cruz said the 1,250 delegates present had unanimously agreed for the party to remain with BN.
"You can see that we are intact. Members, supreme council members... we are intact.
"At the meeting, we just explained the expulsion of our past president, we told them what happened, and the members (also) unanimously supported the removal of Kavyeas.
"It was not easy, but we have no choice, we have to follow the procedures. We already followed the procedures and party constitution," he said at the press conference.
Former deputy minister Loga Bala Mohan, recently appointed MyPPP senior vice-president, stressed that the AGM today confirmed D'Cruz as the new party president.
Asked about Kavyeas' plans to hold his own AGM tomorrow, Loga Bala said:  "What he does as far as we are concerned is not legal."
He also added that MyPPP has 60 days to file its AGM report with the ROS, but is expected to do so by next week. - Mkini
