PETALING JAYA: Malaysians taking part in the online #Chocs4cops campaign have posted photographs on social media of themselves presenting chocolates to police personnel and firefighters to thank them for their work.
The campaign was initiated by lawyer Siti Kasim after former prime minister Najib Razak complained that police officers combing through his family’s properties for evidence of corruption had raided the refrigerator and helped themselves to chocolates and other kinds of food.
In a posting on Facebook, Siti praised people who came together to show their appreciation to the police force.
She said police officers in one instance could not accept the gifts because of a “directive for whatever reason”.
“Poor them,” she said. “Nevertheless, we showed appreciation to our abang bomba (Fire and Rescue Services Department) instead.”
“There were tonnes of chocolate passed on to them. I was so overwhelmed with the responses by the public. It’s simply incredible.”
Other netizens were more successful in handing their chocolates to the police.
Joy Ho shared on Instagram pictures of her with policewomen that she had met to show her appreciation.
Instagram user Noranijones showed herself giving homemade chocolate cupcakes to the police force in Sungai Buloh.
Another user with the name KoolKatisMe posted pictures of himself at the Kuantan police headquarters with a box filled with various types of chocolates. -FMT
